Quality Assurance Manager

Our client is a North American food company offering innovative case-ready solutions for progressive retailers in Canada and the United States. Our client is currently recruiting a Quality Assurance Manager for its food processing facility in Belleville, Ontario.

Position Summary:

Reporting directly to the General Manager with functional reporting to the Vice-President, Food Safety and Quality Assurance, the incumbent is responsible for developing a systematic approach to food safety through Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) programs while ensuring compliance with Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) regulations. This includes ensuring the necessary focus on preventative measures, identification of food safety hazards, and key actions necessary to reduce risk factors. The QA Manager is responsible for: supervising all Quality Assurance staff, including the preparation and delivery of staff performance evaluations and career development initiatives; assisting all areas in achieving manufacturing objectives pertaining to quality; quality improvement process management and meeting quality standards, troubleshooting and resolving customer complaints; presenting a professional and respectful attitude when dealing with both internal and external contacts; and facilitating a team atmosphere.

Key Responsibilities:

Ensure effective food safety guidelines, testing protocols, and practices are in place and being followed
Implement and maintain QA programs with a focus on adherence, viability, functionality, and effectiveness
Direct the laboratory facilities; set-up laboratory for new testing if required
Under the oversight of the Vice-President, Food Safety and QA, train staff and supervisors in quality, HACCP, food handling, and testing processes
Provide quality and technical guidance to all personnel in the areas of process controls, product quality, and inspection
Conduct/monitor the testing and evaluation of new equipment and instructions in terms of meeting product specifications
Troubleshoot and resolve customer complaints; identify and prevent ongoing problems
Conduct regular audits to ensure CFIA and quality standards are met
Demonstrate continuous/quality improvement by developing methodology to improve processes and standards while meeting finished product specifications
Prepare reports and documentation of inspections, audits, and problems/defects
Make concise decisions to hold substandard product; establish and maintain necessary documentation
Liaise with government representatives
Supervise laboratory technicians
Demonstrate effective manufacturing practices
Implement/review standard operating procedures
Develop schedules and resource allocations for QA-related projects
University degree/diploma in a Science discipline
Three to five years of supervisory experience developing/implementing HACCP program for the meat/seafood/food industry
Excellent written and oral communications
Computer experience Microsoft Office Suite
