Production Manager - Frozen - POSITION FILLED

Our client is an international leading supplier of meat ingredients and meat raw materials for the food, pet food and pharmaceutical industries. On behalf of this industry leader, we are recruiting a Production Manager - Frozen for the Calgary processing facility.

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for managing all aspects of the day to day operation within the frozen department of the Calgary plant. Specifically the Production Manager-Frozen will be responsible for the following;

• Assist the Plant Manager in all matters related to frozen production, including suppliers, customers and labor in the Calgary plant. Assist with all facets of the day-to-day operation of the Calgary facility as a senior on-site Company representative.
• Assist in managing all supply and delivery contracts entered into by the company. Act as the day-to-day liaison with all fresh suppliers. Ensure proper reporting of all incoming materials.
• Ensure operation of appropriate Quality Control System. Promptly reports all incidents of incoming materials not meeting required specifications of Quality. Ensure all outgoing product meets the respective customers’ specifications and quality requirements.
• Assume responsibility for the proper reporting of daily production and inventory levels to facilitate timely preparation of daily and weekly production reports as established. Review these reports and provide additional information/explanations as necessary.
• Assist in managing all logistical functions including incoming raw materials, customer shipments and inventory control. Ensure completion of appropriate physical inventory counts as necessary and reconcile results with weekly report/inventory system.
• Along with the Fresh Production Manager, assist Calgary Plant Manager to determine appropriate numbers of employees for all production areas and assist with hiring suitable people as required. Ensure proper supervision and motivation of all plant employees. Provide recommendations to the Calgary Plant Manager concerning annual wage rates for all production staff and assist in annual reviews of performance and wages with individual production employees.
• In conjunction with the Fresh Production Manager, assume responsibility for purchasing of all necessary production materials such as packing, uniforms, etc. In consultation with the Operation Manager and Calgary Plant Manager, purchase production equipment as necessary.
• Ensure the building and equipment are maintained in good working condition. Assist with the monitoring and reporting of ongoing maintenance routines for all key items of equipment within the plant.
• Assist the Calgary Plant Manager and Calgary Health & Safety Manager in co-ordination of the Health & Safety program and ensuring that the facility provides a safe and healthy environment for all the employees while operating within or above all legislative and industry standards.
• Assume other duties/projects as assigned by the Plant Manager from time to time.

Related Experience

The candidate should have some knowledge and experience in the following areas:
• Management, training and motivation of employees within the meat industry
• Health & Safety requirements for Alberta
• Ammonia refrigeration systems
• Plant sanitation and maintenance programs - Set up and maintain
• HACCP programs and the principles used to set up and maintain a program
• Ability to work with CFIA on all matters related to the operation of the facility
• Ability to work with other regulatory organizations related to the operation
• Ability to work under minimal supervision
• Ability to communicate effectively with people from a wide range of backgrounds
• Ability to organize, delegate and complete specific tasks
• Ability to recognize and trouble shoot issues effectively
