Our Edmonton based food processing client is currently recruiting a Quality Assurance Specialist. This position involves maintaining quality assurance, HACCP & BRC related systems which require considerable technical and scientific knowledge in a dynamic and challenging food processing environment to ensure the quality and food safety of the products are achieved at the highest standard for domestic and export markets. This position will play a supporting role to the QA Leader in HACCP, Quality Assurance and BRC related systems.
• Lead the development and implementation of BRC and related programs. • Perform risk assessment as per FSEP and BRC standards. • Lead on internal auditing against the BRC standards and program requirements. • Responsible for maintenance of finished product specifications and finished product labels. • Effectively communicate and interact with different functional groups, including employees on the production floor and CFIA. • Maintain an attitude of continuous improvement during review processes. • QA duties such as: o Monitoring and inspecting activities in Quality Assurance Program. o Maintain Supplier Quality Program. o Perform changeover, supplementary pre-op and pre-operational inspections. • Support the HACCP Coordinator with the following duties: o Revise and update HACCP system to reflect changes in the manufacturing and warehouse activities. o Review records and documentation, and identify deficiencies. Ensure appropriate corrective actions have been taken, implement preventative measures and evaluate effectiveness of the preventative measures. o Completion of annual validation studies. o Carry out export documentation process. • Perform other related duties, as required.
• Thorough understanding of FSEP and working knowledge of HACCP system. • Knowledge of CFIA Meat Inspection Act and Regulations relevant to food safety compliance standards. • Ability to perform food safety risk assessments diligently and thoroughly. • Ability to identify food safety and QA deficiencies and take appropriate actions. • Possess analytical and problem solving skills. • Good organizational and time management skills. • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (both verbal and written) are required. • A team player and capable to work independently in a diverse processing plant environment. • Strong computing skills in Excel and Microsoft Word.
• Diploma or B. Sc. in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry or related discipline. • Minimum 5 years of working experience in developing and maintenance of HACCP system in a food processing industry. • Minimum 2 years of working experience with a GFSI program. BRC experience considered an asset.
