Our value added food processor is looking to recruit an Operations Manager for its processing plant in British Columbia.
Position Summary:
The Operations Manager is responsible for all production operations within the plant processing facility. This includes effectively managing plant staffing, process planning, supervision and production execution. The Operations Manager will work closely with the QA Manager, Production Coordinator, Purchasers, Maintenance Lead and Director to ensure production plans are executed at the highest level of employee engagement, safety, food safety, efficiency and quality. This individual will also actively contribute to a positive and productive working environment.
Key Responsibilities:
• Organizes production departments, staffing and resources • Manages hiring, training, performance and industrial relations for all hourly production staff and direct reports • Manages all phases of production, efficiency, yields and cost-saving projects, delivering positive results in timely and professional manner • Builds and fosters sound relationships among key stakeholders and plant operations teams • Ensures plant trials for Product Development are conducted effectively, ensuring scale up from benchtop to full production • Provide a work environment throughout the plant conducive to enhancing employee engagement • Ensures all Health & Safety, food safety and HR policies and legislation are followed by all plant staff • Mentors managers and supervisors in production, developing appropriate skills and behaviors, identifying promotable staff members • Ensures all tools, equipment and production areas are fully utilized, maintained, operated and sanitized properly on a daily basis • Other duties as required
Technical Skills:
• Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail • Self-starter who can work independently and with little direct supervision • Strong team player and team builder • Understands basic business concepts including some accounting • Knowledge of basic food production or light-industry factory operations • Ability to work in complex, fast-paced environment • Familiarity with basic engineering principles and concepts and knowledge of food production and/or processing ready-to-eat foods would be an asset
Educational and Working Experience:
• Post-secondary education (preferably related to Food Science, Engineering or Business) • Versed in HACCP and general food safety protocols • Experience in commissary, kitchen, back-store or industrial food processing • Minimum 5 years applicable/relative supervisory or managerial experience • Experience in large scale ready-to-eat food preparation or production would be an asset
